About 31 kVA · Compact towable diesel

25 kW generator rental

A 25 kW rental unit suits small commercial jobs, food vendors, medium home standby. Single-axle trailer, base tank sized for a long shift.

What a 25 kW rating actually means

A 25 kW rating is the real power the set is designed to deliver continuously under rental duty, which at the 0.8 power factor these units are rated to is about 31 kVA of apparent power.

It is a capability figure, not a promise about your site. Whether 25 kW is correct depends on what runs at the same time, how the largest motor starts, and how far the power has to travel.

Providers may quote standby, prime or continuous ratings for the same machine. Ask which rating the number on your quote refers to.

Applications this rating suits

  • A site office with HVAC and a tool circuit
  • Small catering refrigeration
  • Two or three motor loads that start separately

Loads people commonly pair with it

  • A site office with HVAC and a tool circuit
  • Refrigeration for a small catering setup
  • Two or three motor loads that start separately

These are typical combinations, not a specification. The deciding factor is usually the starting surge of the largest motor rather than the total running load.

Why actual load and starting current decide it

Total nameplate wattage of everything you own is not the load. The load is what runs concurrently, at the worst realistic moment of the job.

Starting current decides the sizing more often than running load does. A motor started across the line can draw three to seven times its running current for a few seconds, and the generator has to hold voltage through that dip.

We cannot confirm that 25 kW will power your site. That takes a load calculation against your actual equipment list, and on larger or critical jobs an electrical engineer's review.

Voltage and phase at 25 kW

At 25 kW you would see roughly 69 amps at 208 V three-phase, or about 30 amps at 480 V three-phase. The same kW figure produces very different current depending on the voltage.

Confirm the voltage, phase and connection type your equipment expects before delivery. A 480 V set on a 120/240 V site needs a transformer, which is a separate line on the quote.

Many rental sets are selectable between voltages, but the reconnection has to be done by a qualified person, not on delivery day by whoever is nearest.

Typical physical format and placement

Single-axle trailer, base tank sized for a long shift. Typical equipment in this band: compact towable diesel.

Check the access route, the standing surface and the clearance for airflow and exhaust before you agree a position, and make sure the refuelling route still works later in the job.

Fuel and runtime variables

Diesel consumption scales with load. As a planning figure only, expect in the region of 1.8 gallons per hour at about three-quarter load — light loads burn noticeably less.

Base tank capacity, hours per day and who refuels together decide whether this is a set-and-forget rental or a daily logistics task.

Ask for the consumption figure for the specific model on your quote rather than relying on any general rule.

What can change the final recommendation

  • Motors that could start simultaneously
  • Adding refrigeration part-way through the job
  • Single-phase versus three-phase equipment on site

What the site needs to provide

Confirm the voltage and phase the equipment on site expects, a placement with clear airflow and exhaust, an access route the unit can physically reach, and who performs the electrical connection. Cable, spider boxes and transformers are separate items on most quotes.
