Job-site power is a scheduling problem as much as an electrical one. The unit has to arrive, fit, connect and keep running while trades come and go.

Sizing for concurrent trades, not the tool list

Nobody runs every tool at once. Size for the realistic worst case — the trades that overlap — then add the starting surge of the largest motor, which is usually a compressor, hoist or pump.

Sites that add HVAC or a crane part-way through the programme should size for that phase up front rather than swapping equipment mid-job.

Access, placement and ground

A towable genset needs a route in, a firm place to sit and clearance for airflow and exhaust. Confirm gate widths, overhead clearances and whether the ground stays firm after rain.

Keep the fuel truck's route in mind. A unit tucked behind a completed slab is a problem in week three.

Distribution and phase

Confirm voltage and phase against the tools and temporary panels on site. Cable, spider boxes and transformers are separate items and are the most commonly forgotten part of a quote.

Ask who supplies grounding rods and who is responsible for the connection itself — that work usually belongs to a licensed electrician.
