Typical power range
Roughly 20 to 400 kW depending on the model and the gas supply available. Available gas volume and pressure at full load can cap the usable output well below the nameplate rating.
The pipeline is the whole advantage
No tank means no refuelling stops, no fuel storage rules and no overnight fuel deliveries. For long facility work — a planned utility shutdown, a months-long capacity gap — that changes the operating picture entirely.
It also means the unit is fixed to wherever the gas connection is. This is not equipment you reposition around a site.
Making the connection
A qualified gas fitter makes the connection, and the supply has to deliver enough volume and pressure at full load. Confirm both figures with the provider and the gas utility before scheduling.
Permitting can add lead time. On a planned shutdown this is fine; on an emergency it usually rules gas out.
Emissions, noise and load response
Gas engines generally run cleaner than comparable diesel units, which matters where air permits or indoor-adjacent placement are involved.
Load response is a genuine tradeoff: gas units typically accept large step loads more slowly than diesel. If you are starting big motors, raise it early.

The gas utility has to confirm it can deliver the required volume and pressure at full load — this is a written check, not an assumption.

Noise is comparable to an enclosed diesel set of similar output; confirm the enclosure rating rather than assuming gas is quieter.
Portability, towing and placement
The unit is fixed wherever the gas connection is. Placement is decided by the pipe, not by convenience.
Exhaust routing and clearances still apply, and moving a connected unit requires the gas fitter back on site.
Delivery, setup, cable and grounding
Ask these before the unit is scheduled. Each one changes either the price or whether the job works at all.

- This is regulated work with its own inspection and sign-off.
- What permits are required and how long do they take?
- Permitting is usually the longest item on the schedule.
- What step load can the unit accept?
- Motor starting behaviour is the main technical difference from diesel.

- Electrical scope is separate from the gas connection scope.
